After a year of trying to use up these 18 products I’ve decided that this isn’t the type of challenge for me. I just think a year long project pan of so many items just wasn’t possible for the way that I wear makeup now. Since I started working a 9-5 job in August I really only get to play around with makeup on weekend. So when I get the chance to use a lot of makeup I would much rather try out new products or things that I’m actively reviewing for the blog. So it became really difficult as the year went on to try and use up certain products.

But what this made me realize is that products take FOREVER to use up. Like the amount of times I actually used these products and the little amount that some of these went down made me realize that I really don’t need to buy any new products for the rest of my life. I do want to try to be more diligent with the way that I use up products and how often I purchase certain categories of products when I already have a collection building up.
I also realized that at the beginning of this challenge I didn’t really do a good job at marking off how much product I was starting with. It’s clear for something like the smashbox primer water but it wasn’t as obvious for my foundation.
In the future I think I’m going to treat my Makeup Bag Monday posts as if they were a monthly project pan. I think that will be a lot more manageable for me and I might actually put a dent in a lot more products compared to setting up the year the way that I did last year!
This was definitely a silly product to try to pan. I knew starting out that I wasn’t going to use it up but I was hoping I would at least hit pan on a couple shadows. I’m just not super inspired by this palette and I just didn’t find myself reaching for it a lot over the last year. It was one of the first eyeshadow palettes that I bought when I was really getting into makeup so it does hold a special place in my heart for that reason but I’ve come to realize it just isn’t the best palette for me and my makeup preferences anymore.
I was really hoping I could finish this up in the last few months of the year. Sadly I didn’t really get through it and there’s just a little bit of product left. I know this is something that I can use up within the next few months so hopefully you’ll see it in an empties post soon. If I were to ever repurchase this product I would definitely try to pick up one of the scented ones. I don’t know if scented products are the best for your skin but when it comes to face sprays I find them so much more refreshing!
This is the shade that will never end. After starting this project I realized just how long these super shock shadows last and I actually think I completely stopped buying them. I just realized that even though I wear them fairly often I have just about every colour that I could need and there’s no point buying anymore because they will just start to dry up soon!
So I got through a majority of this foundation. I didn’t really use it as much over the last few months of the year. It really is a summer shade and I could use it to mix in with my super light foundation but I just never remembered to do that. I also ended up trying a few new foundations and that meant that I didn’t really want to mix it so I knew what my true feelings of the foundations were. I definitely think this is something that I can use up within the next 6 months if I stick with it!
How is there even this much product left in this pan? I don’t even think I’ll ever need to buy another pressed powder because this one is going to last me until the day I die…. But actually when I use this up I definitely would consider repurchasing this again and then never buying another pressed powder product. I love how this sets all of my face products and it’s such an amazing product for such a small price tag.
So I kind of knew going into this challenge that I didn’t think I would completely use this up. But I thought I would make a little bit more of a dent in this than I did. I think throughout the year I used the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer more than I probably should have. I often reached for that more than I reached for this Hourglass Bronzer. I really don’t need another bronzer because I realize they last me so long and I’d like to try to not buy another one until I’ve at least used up something in my collection first!
This is going straight into the trash after this post goes live. I’m really excited to clear this out of my collection! I definitely wouldn’t have known how dried up the product was if I didn’t pick it out as one of my project pan picks. It was a little disappointing to find out halfway through the year though that I really wasn’t going to get much use out of one of the products that I picked out for this project.
How have I not completely used this product up? The amount of times that I used this primer over the last year and the amount of product I still have left is shocking. I’m definitely really close to finishing this – but I also thought that during my last check in and here we are with product still… I’ll keep using this and hopefully in the next few months you’ll find it in an empties post! I really do like this primer in the winter time but I don’t think I really need to buy another primer anytime soon and I’m sure there are other products that I would want to try that would work just as well if not better. So I doubt I’ll ever purchase this in the future!
I think I maybe got one or two uses out of this compared to the last check in. I’ve been having so many eye issues that I just haven’t wanted to chance it! I’m realizing that I have a million different eyeliner colours that I barely wear and never use. I don’t think I’ve purchased any recently but I’m definitely going to stop purchasing new ones going forward until I start wearing them a little more often. I just think using eyeliner is an extra step that I don’t think I’m willing to do right now. I’ve moved on from the eyeliner phase over the last year or so and I need to realize that I don’t need to add any new ones to my collection.
I was super excited to finish this up half way through the year. I actually pulled out the stopper in the last few months of the year and scraped out every little drop I could get. I would 100% repurchase this in the future but I’ve been on a mission to finish all of the concealers that I have in my collection right now. I know I have too many and I’m fairly picky on my concealer preferences so it doesn’t make sense that I have so many in my collection that I’m not 100% in love with. So I’ve been trying to make all of the ones that I don’t like as much work for me so that I can use them up and get them outta my makeup drawers.
I seriously expected to use this up a lot more than I did. I think I just got a lot more use out of my Colourpop Super Shock Highlighters. I love those a million times more than this Benefit product. I just find this to be a little too greasy to be able to apply quickly on my cheeks. I usually have to spend a little more time working the product in and making sure this doesn’t slip and slide all over the place. Which isn’t completely practical for my everyday makeup looks because I usually have less than 5 minutes to get all my makeup done on a workday. I really am considering just throwing this product out now because it has been with me for an extremely long time and I just don’t see myself reaching for it very often.
How did I not use up this lipstick over the last year? I swear I might never finish a lip product. This really put my lipstick collection into perspective because I have a problem when it comes to lipstick. I probably could wear a new lipstick every single day for a year and I wouldn’t repeat a shade. Like I don’t know how I got this way but we’re here now and I need to just put down the lipstick. I probably have every single shade and finish that I could ever need now and I really need to curb my lipstick spending going forward. I do think I have curbed my lipstick spending over the last year but I still sometimes cave when a new product gets released. But this does make me want to focus on wearing one specific lipstick throughout a month to try to at least get through a tiny little bit of the products that I do have right now.
I completely used up what I had of this primer and started the second tube that I have. When I started using the new tube I noticed such a huge difference of the product. The new one was so much creamier and worked so much better. This really made me wonder how many products I have in my collection right now that are expired or dried and I just think they are bad products? I feel like I’ve been watching too much Marie Kondo on Netflix and I’m about ready to get rid of everything that doesn’t give me joy….. But seriously I’m super happy I was able to get at least one eye primer outta my collection this past year.
This is already in the trash. I have so many amazing lip exfoliators in my collection that I don’t need to keep this cluttering up my space. It just dried up so badly and it doesn’t work nearly as well as it originally did. I love the concept of it, having in a lipstick bullet formula is super convenient. But I don’t think I got as much use out of it as I was originally expecting when I first purchased it because it just kind of crumbled and crushed into itself. After using this I just like and appreciate a little tub for a lip exfoliator. I don’t think I would ever repurchase this in the future.
I think this is going to be the product that never ends. I’m so surprised this hasn’t completely dried up yet because I use this on such a regular basis and it’s like a brand new product every time I dip into it. I definitely would repurchase this because I feel like it ends up being such great value because you just get so much use out of this. I don’t know if it’s the best brow product I’ve ever used but I do like how it makes my brows look and stay in place.
Okay I think this product played me. I honestly thought I was almost done using this but when I went to look at it a month or so ago I swear it looks like the tube is full again??? I don’t understand what happened but it was kind of disappointing for me because I thought this was one of the products that I definitely was going to use up. But unfortunately I’ll have it in my collection for a million more years at this point. I really liked using this but it definitely makes me realize that I rarely go through a lot of lip gloss and I probably never need more than the sample or deluxe sizes of lip gloss. That works out to being an awesome amount and doesn’t take up too much space in my makeup drawer.
I really didn’t use this as much as I was hoping to get to it over the last year. I do find it’s the perfect lid shade but I much prefer just grabbing an eyeshadow palette rather than working through single eyeshadow shades. I know this is an area of makeup that I’m definitely going to avoid purchasing in the future. It’s something that I always get sucked into buying but never reach for on a regular basis. I also find these specific eyeshadows are packed with so much product that it would be almost impossible to make a noticeable dent in the shadow.
I rekindled my love for brow pomades over the last year. I’ve found that I love using them after going in with a brow pencil to kind of sharpen things up and make everything look one step better. I do think I made a little bit of a dent in this product and it seems to still be going strong and performing just as well as it did when I first bought this product. But holy I feel like this is going to dry up before I even come close to using it up. You need such a small amount of product each time you use it that there’s enough for like a million uses!
I learned so much about my makeup usage and habits over the last year. This project pan was super eye opening for me and I was so so happy that I did it! Have you started or finished a project pan recently? I would love to read your posts or videos about it so make sure to leave them in the comments below!
