Makeup Bag Monday

Makeup Bag Monday

I’ve decided to try introducing a new series on my blog. I’ve been seeing this go around social media and youtube and I thought it would be fun to try out. I’m going to post a makeup bag Monday post each week talking about a few products that I tried out over the course of the week. I want to try to use these almost every day over the course of the week. I’ll stick to around 5 products each week because that seems manageable in my mind.

This week I went for a lot of simple products that I’ve been neglecting recently.

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Self Made Palette

I own most of the ABH palettes that have released over the past couple years. You can usually come up with a ton of unique looks with most of their palettes. This is probably my least used ABH palette. I just never really felt inspired by the colour choices in it when I looked at this palette. I always felt like the colours looked really nice on their own but never really flowed together. This was definitely a palette I purchased because I was starting to get into makeup more and felt I needed to have all the limited edition items.

I decided this would be the perfect palette to kind of challenge myself to use for a week straight. I wanted to see what I could come up with and if I could really make it work for me.

Surprisingly I actually really enjoyed using this over the week. I found that I could make a lot more wearable looks out of this than I was expecting to be able to.

My favourite look from the week was Sherbert in the crease, Isla on the lid and Treasure on the inner corner/inner lid. I was pretty surprised to like Isla because it isn’t a colour I usually gravitate towards.

This palette definitely has some serious springtime vibes with all the pastel colours. I think there’s still a lot of brown/neutral colours that it could be a great everyday palette.

Maybelline – Superstay Better Skin Concealer in Light 20

I’m the biggest concealer addict. I don’t know what it is about concealer but I want to try just about every single one that’s on the market. I could honestly say that about almost any makeup product though… I’ve had this one in my collection for a while and usually never reach for it. So I thought it would be a great time to buckle down and figure out my feelings on it. I have seriously dark undereye bags so I usually grab a full coverage concealer on a regular basis to try to counteract that.

After using this for a week I felt like I liked the concealer’s formula but it just didn’t have the coverage that I usually enjoy. It was a good undertone though to help to cover the discolouration under my eye. It was a little bit too dark for me to use on it’s own though, I need a little bit lighter of a colour to really highlight most of my face.

I’ll definitely be keeping this in my collection though because I think it looks good on minimal makeup days. It isn’t too heavy of a formula and blends out well into my skin.

Mellow – Matte Lipstick in Posh

I received this in an Ipsy bag a few months ago. I haven’t really used it much since I received it though. It went into my lip drawer and just disappeared from my brain. I wanted to try to pick a colour for this week that would be a super wearable so that I would get a lot of use out of it.

I was actually pretty surprised to like this! I’ve become so addicted to using liquid lipsticks that I forget just how great a traditional lipstick can be. This lipstick had a nice, matte finish to it without it being super uncomfortable and drying. It didn’t last through a meal though but I found it wore off evenly throughout the day. It was close enough to my natural lip colour that it didn’t look weird by the end of the day. It was a easy formula to reapply throughout the day without looking gross or weird. I did find it applied a lot better and nicer when I exfoliated my lips before application. I have dry and peeling lips though so that’s pretty standard for most matte lip products.

Ciate London – Bamboo Bronzer in Palm Island

I also received this in an Ipsy bag and instantly dismissed it. I felt like I did that unfairly so I wanted to try to give it a solid chance. I don’t own a lot of Ciate products but the ones that I do always seem to work out nicely. I’ve also seen a ton of influencers rave about these bronzers so I figured they had to be good.

I will admit that the actual sample size of this product kind of turned me off. I just didn’t feel like I could dip into this with my brush completely, but I was wrong about that. I was able to grab the right amount of product with a fairly large bronzer brush. This worked well to give my face a bit of colour! I found it to apply fairly smoothly onto my face. It didn’t end up blotchy or orange on my skin so that was great. It lasted fairly well throughout the day and looked pretty similar around the time that I would remove all my makeup. I think this was a really nice bronzer and I’m glad I finally gave it a chance.

Tarte – Clean Slate Timeless Smoothing Primer

I’ve had this little sample for quite some time now and I’ve been wanting to finish it up for a while. I usually just forget about it and reach for a different primer. I don’t really know why I do that though because I actually really like this primer. I think it does an amazing job at giving me a blank canvas to apply foundation on top.

After using it a bunch this week I did find that it didn’t work 100% with some of my foundations. My wet n wild foundation ended up looking like garbage at the end of the day, when usually it looks pretty solid. But some of the other foundations I wore looked great over top of this primer. So I don’t think I would repurchase this product again. Which is crazy because before this week I probably would have considered it. I have no idea why it did that with some of my foundations though.

I mainly just wanted to try to declutter this item from my collection because I have a lot of primers that I’ve accumulated over time. It has fairly bulky packaging for such a small amount of product that it will make me happy once it’s out of my drawer. I’m super close to finishing it now and I’m excited that I managed to get through it a bit more.

Overall I was super happy with how this week went. I really liked having certain products that I wanted to focus more on over the week. It also made getting ready in the morning a little bit easier when I was in a rush. I didn’t really have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what to put on my face.

The five products that I’ll be trying out next week are:

Morphe x Kathleen Lights – Eyeshadow Palette
Covergirl – The Super Sizer Fibers Mascara in Very Black
Tarte – Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Paaarty
Maybelline – Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser in Neutralizer
Allegory Story – Lipgloss in Plato’s Cave
