I’m a huge believer in the constant use of primer. I never put foundation on without having some sort of primer underneath it. Since I have this huge obsession with primer I am always on the hunt for the ultimate product. I really just want a product that keeps my foundation looking fresh and lasting throughout the day. I don’t think that’s too much to ask, but trust me when I say it’s difficult to find that product.

For a long time I was using Nivea Men’s Post Shave Balm, which isn’t an actual primer but honestly makes my makeup last perfectly throughout the day. But after a while I felt as if it was causing breakouts all over my skin. So I decided to hunt for something that would work better with my skin. I wasn’t really able to find anything that I liked as much as the Nivea product until I tried out the Hylamide HA Blur Finisher. Again this doesn’t seem to be marketed as a primer but more as a pore minimizer/smoothing product.
Sephora states: HA Blur uses an new form of hyaluronic acid powder base for its blurring approach—helping to improve the look of pores or an uneven complexion. Apply under or over foundation, or mix it with liquid foundation for an ultra-high-definition skin finish.
I swear this product has changed my life. That might be a little over dramatic… but it’s honestly such a great addition to my makeup collection! It has a similar feel to most pore smoothing primers. It doesn’t feel like a silicone type product though it has more of a velvet feeling, which is weird for a face product. HA Blur doesn’t seem to look or feel greasy on my skin either.
I’ve tried this product without foundation, under foundation and over my foundation. The only thing I haven’t tried doing with this product is mixing it with my actual foundation. I’m always a little stressed to do that because I don’t want to lose out on the coverage of a product.
I’ve been having alot of minimal makeup days the past few months. I’ve been super busy and some days I just don’t feel like putting in the effort of looking glam. This product has really helped me feel more comfortable with wearing little to no makeup. I apply this after putting on moisturizer and it really helps to smooth out my skin. On days that I don’t have any huge breakouts this almost makes my skin look as if I’m wearing foundation!
I’ve been reaching for this as a primer over just about every other product I own. I don’t know how but this just makes my makeup go on smoother and keeps it from breaking up throughout the day. I’ve used it under foundations that usually don’t have the best wear time for my skin and it makes them look a lot better. I rarely wear the Revlon ColorStay Whipped Crème Foundation because I find that halfway through the day it just makes my skin look like a cakey mess. But the Hylamide HA Blur Finisher has really helped with that. I actually loved how my skin looked at the end of the day after wearing this.
This is probably my least favourite way of wearing the product. I just find it sits weird on top of foundation and makes my skin feel velvety and slippery. Even after trying to apply powder on top of the product it still looks a little weird. This honestly surprised me since I love how it looks without foundation. It might just not sink into the skin well with a foundation barrier there or something. It might work better for your skin type but personally I will not be applying this product again over my foundation.
I hope that I was able to show you a few ways of wearing the Hylamide HA Blur Finisher. It’s such a versatile and worthwhile product. It’s fairly inexpensive as well and I was able to pick this up online at Sephora a few months ago. Have you tried this product or any of the Hylamide products? I’ve been wanting to try more from this brand so I would love to know if there are any other amazing products from the brand! Let me know in the comments below!
