I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I wore foundation this month. I’ve just been feeling very unhappy with the way that my skin has been looking so I’ve focused a lot more on trying to improve my skincare. I also mainly just wanted to let my skin breathe and try to avoid piling on a whole lot of heavy pore clogging type products. Overall I’ve been super happy with how this turned out and it’s definitely made me realize that I could really just wear a little bit of concealer and some cream face products.
But just because I wasn’t wearing foundation doesn’t mean that I wasn’t playing around with makeup on a regular basis. I still would try to go all out on every other aspect of my makeup routine.
I actually played around with a ton of products this month so it was tough trying to narrow down my favourites!
Lately the only thing I have been purchasing at Sephora has been their favorites sets. I spend most of my time complaining about sample sized products. But I get so excited when there is a new favorites set posted – go figure. As much as I get annoyed by having so many sample sizes of products I just love being able to try out a ton of different products for such a reasonable price. The one favourites set that I always buy are the ones that focus on lipstick – especially the nude lip sets (who would have guessed that based on my blog name). So when I saw that there was a new one released I purchased it the first chance I could get.
I’m so happy with this specific set because I only own one of the shades. I love when I’m able to try all new products and shades from these. I do already own a few of these products in different shades – but you can never have too many nude lipsticks.
Ipsy is one of my all time favourite subscription services. I’ve been subscribed to Ipsy long before I even had an idea of how to use a majority of the products that I received. It’s an inexpensive way to try out a bunch of different beauty products on a regular basis. Each month, subscribers receive a Glam Bag with 5 deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products. The service costs $10 USD, shipping is free within the US and an additional $4.95 USD to ship to Canada.
This month’s bag theme is described by Ipsy as: Our ultra chill (and super adorbs) mascot, Gudetama, makes its modeling debut on your July Glam Bag—perf for stashing all your #ipsyovereasy essentials. I feel like there wasn’t really a theme to this one but I think the little mascot is adorable. A lot of people online were not into the little guy but I thought he looked really fun.
Recently during a trip to the States I picked up one of the Maybelline City Mini palettes. I heard a lot of fairly good reviews on these. A lot of people said that Maybelline completely reformulated the eyeshadows formulas so that they were actually fairly pigmented and blendable. I decided to pick up one of the palettes that had my favourite assortment of shades. I really wanted a selection of colours that had a decent amount of mattes mixed in with shimmers.
The City Mini palette in Downtown Sunrise has a mixture of of browns, creams, pinks and a silver shade. This is probably the most wearable one for me. They have a few other palettes in the City Mini collection that tend to have more bold colours or they all seem to be very monochromatic. I considered picking up the bronze shadow palette but I heard that all of the shadows were more on the shimmer side and I just wasn’t really interested in that.
I’ve been super busy throughout the month of June. I spent most of my days running around or trying to catch up on work that I needed to get done. I was going away in the middle of the month for a week so I wanted to try to get all my work done so that I didn’t have to worry about it on my trip. That meant that most of my days were spent wearing minimal makeup if I was even wearing any at all!
But I managed to really fall in love with a bunch of products this month though and I’m super excited to be able to share them with my readers!
