Lately I’ve been wanting to get a lot more use out of all the lipstick products that I have in my collection. I’ve been loving testing some of my old favourites and rediscovering products that I completely forgot about. The Covergirl Oh Sugar lip balm is definitely one of the lip products that I basically forgot existed. When it was first released I used it a lot and then I just moved on to the next new thing and forgot about it. I wanted to test it out again and see if it worked as well as I remember it did.

When this was originally released I remember a lot of people comparing it to the Fresh Sugar lip balms. I mean it is a similar idea for a product and they both have the word sugar in them so I can totally see why people tried to connect them together. The Fresh product is waaaay more expensive but it does perform really well. It’s a product that’s painful to purchase but it performs so well that it is worth it. I was really hopefully when I originally tried the Covergirl lip balm that it would be a comparable product and I would be able to save a little bit of money. But it was a different type of product in my opinion. I find that the Fresh Sugar Lip Balm is very thick and extremely soothing instantly where as the Covergirl Oh Sugar Lip Balm is a thinner formula and isn’t quite as intensely hydrating because of that. But it still has a good formula and I would much rather wear something like the Covergirl lip balm than a matte lipstick when my lips are feeling dry or uncomfortable.
This lip balm does have a slight citrus scent that isn’t super overpowering in my opinion. It’s a fake citrus scent in my opinion though and you can still slightly smell the normal Covergirl lipstick scent through it. I would rather this scent though than a cheap plastic lipstick scent but I think Covergirl should have just gone for lip balm that was unscented.
The Oh Sugar lip balm has the perfect tint without being too bold or overpowering. It gives a slight wash of colour that isn’t too bold. If I’m in serious need of some lip hydration I really don’t like wearing a lip product that has a lot of colour to it because I find that it can just accentuate the dry patches on my lips. This really doesn’t do that because the tint is super subtle. The colour also wears off evenly throughout the day and don’t leave a tint or stain on my lips.
I think if you go into trying this lip balm with the idea that it’s going to be identical to the Fresh Sugar Lip Balm than you are going to be pretty disappointed. It really isn’t on the same level in my opinion. The Covergirl lip balm is great quality for the drugstore and it does the job it’s supposed to – it hydrates the lips.
