Sephora Collection Cleansing Oil In Balm Review

Sephora Collection Cleansing Oil In Balm Review

I’m a huge fan of the double cleanse in my nightly routine. I love using an oil based cleanser to break up all the makeup and grime on my skin and then I use another regular cleanser after to clean everything else up and really make sure everything has been removed from my skin. Since I’ve been using this two step cleansing routine I’ve seen a huge improvement in my skin.

Lately I’ve been wanting to start using a cleansing balm instead of a more liquid oil cleanser. I used to have pretty good luck with both the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm and the Ole Henriksen Uncover the Truth 3-in-1 Melting Cleanser. I just found they were a little too pricey for a product that I’m just going to essentially wash off in the end.

But when I saw the Sephora Collection Cleansing Oil In Balm I thought it would be a great product to test out. I managed to get it on sale and I used the Sephora sale coupon that happened in September so it ended up being pretty affordable for me which was amazing!

I love the packaging! It has this little plastic overlay that keeps the small spoon in place and keeps all of the product in the base of the jar. The small spoon is so handy and I think it really helps keep the product from getting gross by constantly having to dig your fingers into it.

The scent of this is to die for. It smells like fruity flowers which likely has to do with some of the wax that’s in the product (jasmine, mimosa and rose). Those are supposed to have softening and smoothing properties to it but they give it the best smell possible!

It did a pretty good job at breaking up all of my makeup. I always found that it managed to break up my mascara (I don’t wear waterproof mascara though so I don’t know how it would hold up to that). But I always had to follow this up with another cleanser. It would leave a weird filmy layer of oil on my skin after using it.

After about a month of usage I noticed that my skin would always break out shortly after using this. My skin would break out a bunch along my jawline and cheek and those were areas that I rarely get breakouts in. After looking into some more of the ingredients I noticed that it has a lot of coconut oil in it. I don’t think my skin gets along well with coconut oil and this definitely proved it.

Overall I think I would rather splurge a little bit on the more expensive cleansing balms because they usually include better ingredients for your skin. I also use the Neutrogena Cleansing Oil which is super affordable and never causes my skin to break out. If you already use coconut oil as a makeup remover this might be a better option for you though because it smells a million times better than coconut oil does!

Have you tried out this product? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! Has it worked for you or did you have a similar experience as I did?
