Mask Monday: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask and Lip Sleeping Mask Review

I’ve heard a lot of great things about the brand Laneige! Korean skincare brands have really taken over the North American market in the past few years! I’ve been wanting to try their products for a while now but I just didn’t know where to start. But I noticed that Sephora had a little deluxe sample sized set that let you try out two of their best selling night time mask products. I thought this would be the perfect way to affordably give them a try!

The Laneige Good Night Kit includes:

0.5 oz/ 15 mL Water Sleeping Mask

0.10 oz/ 3 g Lip Sleeping Mask

With both of the masks you’re directed to apply them right before bed and gently wash and remove any excess when you wake up. The lazy girl in me loves these kinds of masks because it’s such a simple way to get all the benefits of a mask. Sometimes I’m just not in the mood to sit still for 10-20 minutes while I let the benefits of a mask really sink in.

I have pretty dehydrated skin and my lips are always flakey and dry so I was really excited to put these to the test.

First Impressions

Water Sleeping Mask

I was a little surprised by the face mask the first time I tried it because it completely seeped into my skin within minutes. I’m used to hydrating face masks just sitting on the skin and feeling wet and sticky for a long period of time. But it’s actually great that this mask does that because then you avoid wiping off the mask on your pillow while you sleep. The mask felt like a bit of a film over my face but it wasn’t anything I found to be uncomfortable. When I woke up the mask felt pretty much the same on my face. It felt like it had completely seeped into my skin and I wasn’t even sure if I needed to wash the product off in the morning. I still ended up rinsing the product off my face and I was really surprised to find that there was quite the layer of product on my skin.

The mask really transformed my skin and it felt really hydrated and supple after continuing with my normal skincare routine. It honestly felt like I had exfoliated my skin and had been drinking cups and cups of water.

Lip Sleeping Mask

I really loved the scent of this lip mask. The moment that I opened up the jar I could smell the sweet berry scent and it made me want to eat the mask (I didn’t – but I was seriously tempted). It was a pretty thick mask and I felt like it really just sat on top of my lips and didn’t sink into the lips in the same way that the mask did with my face. It did feel moisturizing but not in the way that some of my other lip masks feel. This one kind of just felt like a thick lip balm rather than a mask.

When I woke up my lips felt hydrated without feeling sticky and the product was still slightly on my lips. I don’t know if I find this different than any other lip mask that I already own but I think it’s been good for an overnight balm. I would pair this with a lip scrub before you apply the mask so that you don’t end up hydrating dead skin that just needs to go!

Final Thoughts

Overall I think the Water Sleeping Mask is going to be a necessity as the weather gets dry and cold over the next 6 months! After using this multiple times throughout September I think it’s going to become a regular member of my skincare routine. It really manages to give my skin an extra shot of hydration for the day. I’m the worst at remembering to drink water and staying hydrated (coffee has water in it right… that’s about as far as I get to hydration most days) so this is must needed for my skin. I used to always use the glamglow hydration mask as an overnight mask so this totally does a similar boost to my skin.

As for the Lip Sleeping Mask I don’t know if I can say that it’s 100% necessary. It’s a great product to have on hand and it does a good job at hydrating your lips overnight. But I don’t know if it’s a huge improvement to any other thick lip balm that I already have. I think if you don’t have a lip balm already and are in the market to purchasing one than this is a great option. But this isn’t anything that you necessarily need to go out and buy any time soon!

Have you tried out any of the Laneige sleeping mask products? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! If you have any other Laneige recommendations make sure to leave them in the comments as well because I would love to try some more from this brand.
