Makeup Bag Monday #10

Makeup Bag Monday #10

Once a month I try out 5 products and try to use them every single day for a week. This helps to give me a better understanding of exactly how I feel about the products. It sometimes forces me to use products that I rarely reach for or ones that I might have forgotten about.

This week I picked out products that I really never reach for on a regular basis anymore. These products were all ones that I’m no longer excited to use. I wanted to try them all out to see if I could change my opinion on them or if I should just declutter them from my collection.

Colourpop – Pressed Powder Shadow Palette in Semi-Precious

I really like this eyeshadow palette more than I was expecting to. It’s a really great palette and has a wide variety of shimmer shades. I originally bought it because I had a sephora coupon and it was on sale and I didn’t really expect to get much use out of it. But the colours look a lot better in person and Colourpop’s metallic formula is one of my all time favourites. It’s such a perfect shimmer palette because it has just about any shimmer shade you could want to use. It really has a great selection and you could get just about any look with this when you pair it with a few matte shades. I did try to use the shade The Game wet once and it left a weird film on the top of the pan and basically hardened the shadow. It’s one of my favourite shades in the palette so that was a bit of a bummer.

RealHer – Be Fearless, Be Limitless Blush Kit

After using this for a week I’m just not wowed by the blush shades. I never would have purchased it myself and I’m tempted to just give it away now. It’s a nice palette and the blush does show up well on the skin but I just don’t really think the colours are great for me. I’ve been wearing more blush lately but I really don’t think I’ll wear this much in the future. I usually just mixed all of the colours together and apply that and it looks like a natural and glowy flush to the cheeks. I think my problem with this is that I tend to gravitate to warmer blushes and these lean more on the cool tone.

Wet N Wild – Photofocus Foundation in Soft Ivory

I’m so torn on this foundation. Some days I love it and other days I really like it. But I think I usually dislike it more than I enjoy it. I think it just emphasizes my pores and dryness more than I would like. I did notice after consistently using it that it looks better when I’m overly moisturized and only using hydrating primers. So if I use it going forward I’ll be sticking to just that. This is not my shade for summer so I might also try mixing this with a more luminous foundation in the next few months to see if I can come up with a mixture that works for my skin.

Dr. Brandt – Pores No More Luminizing Primer

I really think this primer helped with the way the Wet N Wild foundation looked on my skin. It isn’t overly luminizing though but it did make my skin look healthy. I think this is a primer that you could use on days where you don’t really want to go heavy on the foundation. I didn’t notice a huge difference when it comes to filing in my pores. It doesn’t seem to have that usual pore filing texture to it. Overall though I’m really glad this was included in a Boxycharm box and I was able to try it because I never would have picked it up otherwise!

Burt’s Bees – Gloss Lip Crayon in Outback Oasis (401)

Alright this product is a big no from me. I normally don’t like glossy lipsticks because I feel like they end up wearing weird on my lips throughout the day. This was no exception. It basically just skipped over parts of my lips when I was first applying it and then it just kind of streakily (is that even a word?) disappeared from my lips. The colour isn’t the greatest for my complexion either. I also don’t like the scent – it smells like chemicals and plastic. I would be willing to work with this a little bit more if it didn’t have such a strong and unpleasant scent to it.

Overall I think this was an eye opening Makeup Bag Monday. I have a lot of strong opinions when it comes to the products that I tested. I’m glad that I picked these specific products because they were all products I was on the fence about and I feel like my feelings developed a lot over the week that I tested these.

On my next Makeup Bag Monday post I’ll be testing:

Wet N Wild – Ultamatebrow Retractable Brow Pencil in Ash Brown

Cover FX – Shimmer Veil in Amethyst

Clinique – Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer in 01 Linen

Urban Decay – Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lipgloss in SLP

Pretty Vulgar – Make Them Blush in Hush Blush

Have you tried any of these products? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below!
