Ipsy Review – January 2018

Ipsy Review – January 2018

Ipsy is one of my all time favourite subscription services. I’ve been subscribed to Ipsy long before I even had an idea of how to use a majority of the products that I received. It’s an inexpensive way to try out a bunch of different beauty products on a regular basis. Each month, subscribers receive a Glam Bag with 5 deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products. The service costs $10 USD, shipping is free within the US and an additional $4.95 USD to ship to Canada.

The theme of this month’s bag is described as: Whether you’re heading to kickboxing or kicking back with your crew, this little mesh pouch is a winner for showing off your sporty side.

At first I didn’t really understand why they chose that theme for the middle of winter but after thinking it all made sense. Since the new year is full of resolutions to get fit I think Ipsy really wanted to capitalize on that and give everyone a sporty clutch. I think it’s cute but I’m probably never going to use this one.

CIATÉ LONDON – Fierce Flicks Liquid Eyeliner

I actually already own this eyeliner and it’s sitting in my drawer unopened. I think it’s actually a really nice eyeliner. It’s super black and fairly matte. But I own 10 million other black eyeliners and rarely use them so this was kind of a bummer. I’m glad it was at least a higher end brand name that I received but I’m bored of all these eyeliners that I seem to keep getting in subscription boxes.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES 101 – After Hours Lip Balm

This was really a meh product for me. I’m kind of bored of getting lip balms in subscription boxes as well. I find the ones that I get aren’t anything life changing or amazing. This was alright and the scent was good but I didn’t find it to be overly moisturizing or do anything special to my lips. I’ll keep it around and may use it in the future but it’s not a product I was really excited about.

KOKIE COSMETICS – Kissable Liquid Lipstick in Desire

I think this was the only product I was somewhat excited to try out in the bag. It’s a little difficult to get Kokie Cosmetics products in Canada so I’m always excited to receive them. I was disappointed though because I wasn’t a huge fan of this after trying it out. It was fairly drying and really emphasized the creases on my lips. I’ll probably keep this in my collection through because I was really into the colour of it. It will just have to be a product that I use with a little bit of gloss on top.

EMMA – Nail Polish in MIA is My BFF

I’m not a huge fan of this nail polish which is a little frustrating because I think the colour is super gorgeous. The formula is the problem for me. The consistency is really thin and watery and takes at least three coats before it looks kind of good on my nails. I’m a two coats kind of person through so this just didn’t work for me. I also am not a huge fan of the applicator, it was super small and really flimsy. I think I’m just so used to how amazing KL Polish is so nothing else really compares to how much I like that. This is close enough to the shade Mozart in that line so I would reach for that polish over this one every single day. I’ll probably end up decluttering this or just giving it away because I’m really never going to wear it in the future.

BRIOGEO HAIR CARE – Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo

I’ve received one of these in the past through a sephora sample. This should be the best product for me because I always have weird scalp issues. I have a really dry scalp and it always seems to be super flakey. I really like the idea of this but it doesn’t work as well as I would like it to. It ends up just making my hair feel gross and greasy. Sometimes the little exfoliaters end up getting stuck in my hair as well. I just don’t think I’ll use this very often and it was kind of just a waste of a product for me this month.

CIATÉ LONDON, KOKIE COSMETICS

Overall I feel like this was probably one of the worst bags I’ve received in a while. I usually have a couple products that save a bad bag but this had nothing. Lately the bags haven’t been as great or exciting for me so I’m hoping that it will turn around soon. I had a ton of amazing bags in early-mid 2017 so I’m just waiting for it to get better this year. I don’t think I could ever get rid of this subscription though so I’ll just cross my fingers and hope it gets better again throughout 2018!
