One of my first real lipstick loves were the Maybelline Matte Lipsticks. They were one of the first lipsticks that I felt lasted such a long time on my lips and really looked good on me. I have really dry lips all the time so sometimes the super juicy and glossy lip colours can look a little weird on me. So I’ve been very loyal to most Maybelline lipsticks and I have a fairly excessive collection. I was super excited when I found out they were releasing Metallic Matte lipsticks. I really can’t turn down a good metallic lipstick.

After trying these out multiple times I don’t feel like these are completely matte lipsticks. I don’t really think you can have a true metallic lipstick that is completely matte because that kind of defeats the purpose it being either matte or metallic. The normal Maybelline Matte lipsticks aren’t the most drying and mattifying though so I’m not necessarily surprised. These were definitely fairly comfortable and didn’t dry out my lips quite as much as a normal matte lipstick does. They did transfer though so I wouldn’t go into these expecting them to be like a matte liquid lip.
I really have been into metallic lip colours lately. I think it gives your lips a little more dimension. It’s also a really fun way to wear bold colours. This line of lipsticks has some fun but wearable shades in nudes and reds but it also has some bold colours like green, silver and gunmetal. I knew I wanted to get something that was fun but wearable so I went with Copper Rose – a deep, berry, red shade and Copper Spark – an orange, gold shade.
This would have been such a gorgeous fall/winter colour in my opinion. I felt like this just was really difficult to work with and didn’t really stay on well throughout the day. It went on fairly transparent and you 100% needed to wear a lip liner underneath it. I really don’t like wearing lip liners because I think it’s an extra step that I just don’t have time for most days. So I need a lipstick that looks good and stays on and this just wasn’t cutting it. I think this is one of the few Maybelline lipsticks that I wasn’t a fan of and it really hurt that I didn’t like it in the end.
Now copper spark was not the most wearable shade out of the two but I liked it a million times more than copper rose. I swear it had a bit of a different formula because it went on a lot more creamy and was much more opaque on my lips. I could almost get away with just wearing one swipe of this. The formula lasted much longer than copper rose but it wasn’t super long wearing. I actually wore this out quite a few times and didn’t feel like it was as unwearable as I originally thought.
