Physicians Formula Butter Highlighter Review and Swatches

Physicians Formula Butter Highlighter Review and Swatches

Physicians Formula recently released highlighters in their murumuru butter line. I’m obsessed with the butter bronzer and blush so I figured I needed to try them out!

I was really hopeful on the formula but before I was able to find them at my local drugstore I heard that the formula was completely different. They are more like the Colourpop highlighters than the other murumuru butter products. I honestly thought that was a little weird for Physicians Formula to do. It would make sense for them to keep everything in a similar formula. But I’m such a fan of the Colourpop super shock highlighters that I wanted to give the Physicians Formula ones a try to see how they compared.

I decided to pick up one shade to try it out and judge how I feel about it. I went with the shade Pearl. This really was one of the best shades for my skin tone. Pearl is a white highlighter with a pink and gold flip to it. In the winter months I’m always super pale and I love wearing a silver/white highlight shade.

I tried the highlighter out for the first time on Christmas Eve. That was probably a little crazy because I had a whole bunch of family events to go to that I wouldn’t have wanted to show up with a mess of a highlight. But luckily it turned out alright!

The one weird thing that I thought about the highlighter is that it felt super greasy to the touch. It was difficult to get product on my finger to apply it because it just kind of slipped around in the pan. This meant that I had to dig into the product and apply it a bunch of times for it to really show up.

There was a bit of glitter in the highlight which I was annoyed by when I originally swatched it. But I didn’t find that to transfer much on my cheekbones which was surprising. I did have more of a sheen on my skin after applying it rather than a glitter disco ball of a mess.

I didn’t set the highlight with any kind of powder and I felt like it wore well throughout the day. This seems like a highlighter that would look gorgeous with a bit of a powder highlight dusted on top to really lock in the product.

The scent was more intense in my opinion compared to the other Murumuru Butter face products. I’m sure that has something to do with the fact that the highlight is super greasy. Physicians Formula likely has some of the Murumuru Butter infused into it.

Overall I did enjoy the product and I would like to try out some of the other colours.

Have you tried any of the Physicians Formula Butter products? Which ones are your favourite? I don’t even think I can even decide which one I like the most. I’d love to hear all of your thoughts in the comments below!
