Ipsy Review – August 2017

Ipsy Review – August 2017

Ipsy is one of my all time favourite subscription services. I’ve been subscribed to Ipsy long before I even had an idea of how to use a majority of the products that I received. It’s an inexpensive way to try out a bunch of different beauty products on a regular basis. Each month, subscribers receive a Glam Bag with 5 deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products. The service costs $10 USD, shipping is free within the US and an additional $4.95 USD to ship to Canada.

The theme this month was Good Vibes Only. They were trying to make a bag that looked like the sunset. Ipsy was hoping that it would inspire you to be a free spirit and pass on good vibes this month.

I was a big fan of the bag design this month. I love when Ipsy comes out with a few different variations of the monthly bag. Ipsy sent me the Good Vibes Only bag, but I kind of wish I would have been sent the Peace Love Lipstick one because that one speaks to my soul more. I think it’s super cute though and I’ll try to find some use for it. This bag felt a little larger than most of the other Ipsy bags so I’ll hopefully get around to using it!

YADAH – Silky Fit Concealer BB Power Brightening in Light Beige

I’m a concealer junkie so I was pretty stoked to get this in my bag this month. I’ve never actually heard of this brand before. It sounds like quite the interesting product though. I’ve used bb creams in the past but never a bb concealer. I found swatching the concealer that it just kind of blended out to nothing. It really didn’t conceal much when I applied it to my face. While testing this out a had a few really bad breakouts on my chin and cheek. They were still extremely visible after packing this on over top of them. I also noticed that this had a really odd smell and I just wasn’t a fan of it at all. I really don’t need a concealer in my collection that doesn’t perform like it should. I’ll definitely be getting rid of this one.

Glamour Dolls – Romantic Rose Blending Brush

I really need to go through my Ipsy quiz again and review all of the brush products as something not for me. Don’t get me wrong this is a really nice brush! It’s super soft and is the perfect size for blending out a shade in the crease. But I just don’t need anymore brushes. I have more than I’ll ever need in my lifetime. I always seem to get this specific type of brush in my ipsy bags as well so I’m extra overwhelmed with eyeshadow crease brushes. I’ll still get some use out of this since I’m usually pretty lazy when it comes to washing my brushes, but it wasn’t something that I particularly needed.

Vitamasques – Yoghurt Mask Duo (Strawberry and Kiwi)

I love that Ipsy has been including more mask products. I’m happy that I’m finally getting a regular mask and not a sheet mask. The packaging on these are so cute and definitely something I was excited to try out! The strawberry mask smelt exactly like strawberry yogurt and feet really smooth on my skin. I did find that my skin felt a little sensitive after having the mask on for about 10 minutes or so. I’m not really sure what caused that because it seemed like a soothing mask when I first applied it. The morning after using this I woke up with a huge zit on my cheek. This was the only thing that was different in my nighttime routine that previous evening. I’m not a fan of the scent of kiwi at all anyways so I won’t be trying the other one out at all. I always like trying out new mask products this way because I can find out if they work for me before I put out a bunch of money on them. This is a product I would not buy on my own unfortunately!

Pacifica – Coconut Blush Duo (Ipsy Exclusive)

I was really surprised by how large the pans were on this blush product. I think I’m just not used to getting full sized products in my Ipsy bag. When I first swatched these I did not think I was going to like them at all. They felt extremely chalky and powdery. I really didn’t think they were going to perform well on the cheeks. But they ended up being better than I expected. They are pretty pigmented. The first time I used them I looked like a clown and had to try my best to fix it by blending it out as much as I could. The packaging is pretty difficult to open though, I’ve struggled a bunch just trying to open up the product. One cool thing about this that I didn’t notice at first is the back of the packaging is a full mirror. It’s a pretty good sized mirror in my opinion for a face compact like this one. I’ll continue to use this blush duo a lot in the future!

theBalm Cosmetics – theBalm Voyage Vol. 2 Eyeshadow in Kuwakaribisha

I think I’m a little over getting these super small samples of theBalm Cosmetics. I really love theBalm and I think it’s great to receive a higher priced brand in such an affordable subscription service. But I just always throw these mini samples in a drawer and forget they even exist. This is a really nice eyeshadow that’s super pigmented though so I might try my best to try to incorporate into more eyeshadow looks. Maybe I’ll try to use some of these in an upcoming Makeup Bag Monday post? I definitely would use something like this for an all over the lid shade or even a pop in the inner corner.

YADAH concealer, Kuwakaribisha, Pacifica blushes

Overall I was a little disappointed with this months bag. Majority of the products that I received just won’t work for me. Ipsy has had a bunch of great months for me lately so it’s been about time to get a bag that just didn’t live up to my expectations. Oh well! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll receive one of the Colourpop lip products in next month’s bag!

Have you tried any of these products? What did you receive in your Ipsy bag this month? I would love to hear in the comments below!
