May 2017 Favourites

May 2017 Favourites

Throughout the month of May I seriously broke my no-buy. I spent a little too much money on makeup that I probably didn’t need. But I received my tax return at the beginning of the month so that’s how I justified it all haha.

I tried out a lot of new products this month because of that and I included some of my favourites in this post. Some of these products I had for a while though and I just finally got around to using them!

Wet N Wild – Photofocus Foundation in Soft Ivory

I recently picked up this because I love a good affordable product! I’ve heard so many people say great things about this so I figured it was time for me to give it a try. This was also super difficult to find around me. The Wet N Wild displays at my local Walmarts are super small but they carry a ton more at a Supercenter close to my house! I love the applicator on this. It has a little paddle attached to the lid which makes it super mess free when applying to my face! I’ve found this to wear really well throughout the day. I don’t usually have to set this but I always wear it with some type of pore minimizing primer. It leaves my skin looking really natural throughout the day. I find this doesn’t really cake up on my face. The natural oils in my skin peek through a bit by the end of the day though but I don’t look overly oily or greasy.

My only issue with the product is that it has a really strong scent to it. I honestly hate the scent and I’m glad it doesn’t linger on the skin for too long. I haven’t seen anyone mention it though so I’m very curious if I just got a bad product.

Colourpop x Sonya Esman – Super Shock Cheek Palette in Here Comes The Sun

At this point in my makeup journey I don’t think I could have a favourites post without Colourpop included on it. I have an unhealthy obsession with purchasing Colourpop. I don’t feel that bad about it though because everything is super affordable! I’ve always been a huge fan of any of their Super Shock products so I had to purchase the Super Shock Cheek Palette when it came out! This has a very similar consistency to their regular Super Shock Cheek products which makes me so happy. These are really easy to blend out with both a beauty blender or your fingertips. I really love the colour selection as well. Orange and peachy blush tones are what I normally gravitate to so this is right up my alley. The highlight is a really subtle gold colour that reflects so well on the cheek bones. I’m really hoping they will come out with more palettes like this one because I want it in every possible colour!

Neutrogena – Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel

I’ve been seeing a lot of hype on social media recently about the Hydro Boost line and I totally understand why. I’ve used the Hydro Boost moisturizers in the past and I’ve found them to be a really great formula for my skin. This month I’ve been using the Hydrating Cleansing Gel as the second step in my night time cleansing routine. I start off with the Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil (which was included in my March Favourites). After that I use this product to help clear out those last little bits of makeup. The first time I used this I was honestly pretty shocked because my skin felt super hydrated and supple just like the product states it will. I did not expect that at all from a cleanser. I love how this makes my skin feel after using it and I highly recommend it!

Wet N Wild – Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick in Give Me Mocha

I’m the biggest fan of liquid lipsticks – which shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who reads my week in lipsticks posts! I actually included this in my most recent one (you can read it here). The main reason I love this and have been wearing it a bunch this month has been because the colour is perfect for me! It’s a really wearable red shade! I find this one is a little bit of a difficult formula to work with though. It’s a little sheer for my liking and can come out patchy if you aren’t careful. I usually wear this over top of a lip liner so that I get the best colour payoff possible.

Essie – Nail Laquer in Leggy Legend

I’ve been slacking on painting my nails the last few months. Lately my nails have been looking a little rough but I still managed to get them under control a few times this month. I bought this specific Essie polish at a huge L’oreal warehouse sale in March. I mainly bought it because it was at a super discounted price. To be honest I wasn’t sure whether or not I would like this but it was the easiest shade for me to grab in my collection the night that I decided to paint my nails. My nail polish is in this huge drawer in the bottom of my closet and I didn’t feel like rummaging around too much that specific night. Am I glad I gave this polish a shot though. It’s such a pretty metallic shade. Depending on how you look at it you can see a bunch of different colours. The colour varies between gold, brown, copper or green. I love when nail polish shades pick up different colours depending on the light and the way that you look at the nail. I also received a bunch of comments when wearing this shade so I know it’s a great one!

(This might be discontinued, it was part of the Fall 2015 collection.)

Pixi – Glow Tonic

I’ve been diving more into skin care over the past couple months so I’ve been finding a lot of products that I’ve been loving for my skin. I was a little afraid to give this a shot because I have pretty sensitive skin sometimes. But I’m really glad I tried this out. I find that it really leaves my skin looking radiant after using this for the past couple months. I usually use this every other night switching things up with an acne fighting toner. The scent was super surprising, I was expecting this to have a different scent. It smells like baby powder which is super weird in my opinion. But I would rather it smelt like that then something strong and horrible.

Great post! I’ve wanted to try the Pixi Glow Tonic for the longest of time but I have so much skincare to get through at the minute I’m on a kind of skincare spending ban haha! Also that Essie polish looks such a unique pretty shade!
