Ipsy Review – January 2017

Ipsy Review – January 2017

Ipsy is one of my all time favourite subscription services. I’ve been subscribed to Ipsy long before I even had an idea of how to use a majority of the products that I received. It’s an inexpensive way to try out a bunch of different beauty products on a regular basis. Each month, subscribers receive a Glam Bag with 5 deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products. The service costs $10 USD, shipping is free within the US and an additional $4.95 USD to ship to Canada.

This month’s bag was pretty unique. I really do love what Ipsy has been providing in terms of the Glam Bags. I think I really need to try using these bag for more than just makeup. My collection of the Glam Bags has been building up a lot more lately. I felt like this month’s bag had much more of a summer vibe to it though, which kind of surprised me for a winter release. It probably would have fit better for some type of beach or pool themed month in my opinion.

Crown Brush – Beaute Basics C405 Contour Blush Brush

I probably don’t need any more makeup brushes. I’ve been a lot more selective with brushes after getting completely overwhelmed with the amount that I have received through my Morphe Brushes subscription. This is a great brush for getting a very precise contour. It blends pretty well but it’s not the most amazing brush I’ve ever tried. I’ll probably keep this around for a while but if I don’t use it often I’ll give it away to one of my friends.

Pur~lisse – Blue Lotus Seed 5-in-1 mud mask + exfoliant

I was surprised with how much I liked this mask. I did find that at first it was a little bit uncomfortable because it had a pretty intense cooling sensation to it. But after about a minute that went down quite a bit. It did leave my skin a little red after washing off the mask. I have fairly sensitive skin so I’m sure that had a role in the redness. It didn’t take too long for the redness to disappear. I don’t know if it really cleared up my skin too much because my skin has actually cleared up quite a bit lately. It did leave my skin feeling soft and smooth due to the exfoliation part of the mask.

TEMPTU – Base Smooth & Matte Primer

I actually really enjoyed this primer. I was pretty surprised with how it performed because I didn’t really have high hopes for it. This helped my foundation last pretty well throughout the day. I found that it kept my oily skin under control. I don’t know if it was super smoothing though. It didn’t have the normal texture of a pore filling primer, but it made my skin feel smoother as I was applying the primer. I found that it didn’t make my foundation look any different in terms of its smoothness.

theBalm Cosmetics – Bahama Mama

I actually have a sample of this already. I guess I must have got it in another subscription service, maybe Birchbox when they used to deliver to Canada. It’s a really pretty shade and would probably work well as a bronzer. Unfortunately though the sample size is just too small for me to use this as a bronzer. It works really well as a transition shade for my eyeshadow though. That’s probably all I will ever end up using it for.

Naked Cosmetics – Mica Pigment in Desert Sunset #02

I actually received a pigment from this brand in an ipsy bag almost a year ago. I never actually used the pigment though because I just didn’t like that colour very much. But the one that I received in this month’s bag is the perfect colour. It’s a light pink colour and super metallic. The perfect colour for an all over lid shade. I actually wore this a couple days ago and I loved putting this all over my lid using the too faced glitter glue primer as a base. I used Bahama Mama as a crease shade to blend everything out and I loved how it looked.

Overall this was definitely a great Ipsy bag for me. I think I’ll use all of the products! What did you get in your Ipsy bag this month? I would love to hear about it in the comments below!
